Explore Rwanda
For sheer diversity of species, Rwanda is a big hit with wildlife fans! Volcanoes National Park is home to one of only two populations of mountain gorilla! On your way to seeing these majestic mammals in their natural habitat, you can look out for forest elephant, buffalo, spotted hyena, black-fronted duiker, bushbuck, and some brilliant birdlife! Golden monkey treks are on offer too. For classic Big Five game viewing, you can head to Akagera. This region also contains Maasai giraffe, Burchell’s zebra, and an impressive assortment of antelopes, roaming its scenic highlands and plains, and quenching their thirst at its lakesides! There are hippopotamus and crocodile too, and approximately 480 bird species. We also love Nyungwe Forest, with its magnificent old ebonies and mahoganies strewn with colourful plant life. Forest thrills await at every twist and turn, as the park boasts 13 primate species, 85 types of mammal, and 275 bird varieties. Gorilla and monkey treks are possible here too, as well as a fantastic treetop canopy forest walk!

Where to go
Located a few degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is one of the world's smallest countries and is in a landlocked position between Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. All of Rwanda is at high elevation, with mountains in the west, savannah in the east, and numerous lakes throughout the country. The Volcanoes National Park is where Rwanda's renowned gorilla safaris take place; attracting thousands of visitors every year. The country hosts some rare species of animals in addition to the sought after silverback mountain gorillas; unique birds and insects are beautifully abundant in the tropical forest of Nyungwe. Music and dance, particularly drums and the highly choreographed 'intore' dance, are an integral part of Rwandan culture. Traditional arts and crafts are produced throughout the country, including 'imigongo', a unique cow dung art.
